Not the start to the season that I envisioned. I am not an Anthony Richardson believer & he performed exactly how I feared he might. IND’s “D” could’ve saved the day but the most obvious gameplan imaginable was successfully executed by GB to run the ball & keep Willis out of harm’s way. It was a classic out-coaching by LaFleur over Steichen & poor overall play by the “O” led by the ineffective Richarson. You will not find me backing Richardson much this season. He is too unreliable. Mahomes also brutally underperformed for KC against his kryptonite CIN, where officiating & “D” saved them from their 1st loss. NE almost had SEA, but several critical miscues in the secondary allowed Geno to win in OT. I made a huge mistake w/selecting the LAR in my Teaser w/the amount of injuries they had, w/Kupp going down helping further the ARI blowout. My only winners were the putrid “O”s of PIT & DEN coming thru for the Under & ATL completing the improbable comeback victory on MNF @ PHI. I was also successful w/a Teaser on Thurs w/NYJ & the Under.

Regular Season POW 0-2, Teasers 0-2, GOY 0-0, Overall 4-7-2

MIN +1 ½
is off to a nice 2-0 start, w/victories over the NYG & SF. Sam Darnold somehow is #5 in rating amongst all starters in the young season. And it’s not all Justin Jefferson as he’s spread the ball around in a balanced O’Connell “O”. Aaron Jones & Ty Chandler are effectively running & MIN’s oline is functional. Both SF & NYG have good “D”s & pressured Darnold quite a bit, so HOU’s “D” will be yet another challenge. But HOU barely beat both IND & CHI, 2 teams w/very shaky QB play & both now 0-2. Stroud is still a 2nd yr QB & is not as great as most people are making him out to be. Enter Brian Flores & his exotic blitzes & schemes. Purdy during post gm was heard saying, “You have a helluva scheme” to Flores as they shook hands. Purdy threw for 294 yds however he was sacked 6x & turned the ball over twice. I envision a similar gm for Stroud, however w/Mixon out for this gm, I feel Jordan Mason & SF’s run gm is far stronger than HOU’s w/Akers & Ogunbowale. Run-blocking TE Brevin Jordan is out for the yr, starting C Scruggs is a longshot to play & backup Patterson is out. So Stroud will likely have to carry the “O” & I don’t see him having great success vs this confusing “D”. An interesting angle I also see is Darnold’s time in SF allowed him to practice against that 4-3 zone “D” that Demeco Ryans took to HOU. That’s why Darnold didn’t seem overwhelmed by SF’s “D” despite the pressure. This will likely go down to the final minute however I feel the wrong team is favored.

Honorable Mentions:

1 Unit MIA +4 ½:
I must admit I was pretty depressed like most MIA fans last wk Thurs, but once I calmed down I realized that not all was lost. Thompson is now in his 3rd yr & has apparently learned a lot. He almost pulled off the improbable @ BUF in the WC rd in his rookie yr. LT Armstead & LG Jones will be back for this tilt (both injured in 3rd Q last wk) & McDaniel thankfully had a longer wk to gameplan around Thompson. Achane will be relied on heavily & expect a lot of short throws for YAC opportunities w/Hill & Waddle. SEA is 2-0, but close wins against 2 putrid “O”s in DEN & NE isn’t that awe-inspiring.

1 Unit CAR +6: Sneaky good play here as CAR w/Dalton coming in @ QB could be what’s needed to keep this one close. A lot is being made w/Dalton’s 4-0 record against OAK/LAV, however 2 of those wins was long ago in CIN & 1 win he hardly played. He did lead NOR to a 24-0 win as a dog vs LAV in ’22. He threw 2 TDs to no INTs for a 117 rating, @ a time when both teams were bad. LB Deablo is out, stud DT Wilkerson is questionable & is a true GTD & Maxx Crosby is nursing a bad ankle. CAR’s “D” is actually not bad. Bryce Young put them in bad spots & if Dalton can just be a steady hand for this “O” they could very well win this gm SU.

1 Unit JAX +5: Perfect spot for JAX as BUF is off to a hot 2-0 start & EVERYONE is singing Josh Allen’s praises. JAX is 2-0 vs Allen, w/Hines-Allen being his kryptonite. I don’t care for Lawrence, but he should play w/confidence against a team he’s never lost to. Etienne will also help as he had 134 yds & 2 TDs against BUF last yr. Thus completes the Worm’s Dog Picks of the Wk.

2 Unit Wormy Teaser:

NOR +10 ½
BAL +12
SF +6 ½
KC +10

I hope the dogs are barking this wk. It's rare for me to be on this many dogs, but hopefully that means Vegas & bettors are still figuring out the teams. I sure hope you continue to survive in your league. BOL!
W. Pix.....BOL with all your action this week buddy....
continue those winning ways.....indy
Thanks Indy! I continue to need all the good vibes I can get. I think I'm getting a better hold of teams now, so we'll see after this wk.

FUN FACT about MIA gm: When Kevin Harlan calls their gm, MIA is 8-0 SU (5-3 ATS). A lot of those were improbable wins like Tua’s 6-TD comeback @ BAL, Josh Allen’s bonehead mistake to end upset of BUF that led to OC Ken Dorsey going ballistic in the booth, 2 shootout victories @ LAC & CHI, & MIA’s historic blowout v DEN 70-20. This yr the improbable win was vs JAX w/Etienne fumbling @ the goal line & Tua hooking up w/Tyreek on 80-yd TD that started the comeback. Further breakdown ATS for this magical trend has Harlan @ 3-0 as a dog & 2-4 as a fav. Next up: @ SEA.

Completely understand Gravy. Thompson did not look good @ all his rookie yr & thrust into the gm late on Thurs he also did not instill confidence. But w/his mind in the rt spot now after 9 days to prep, he'll look a little better than what he's shown us thus far. Or he could completely crap the bed.

What about CLE? So hard to track that team w/Watson @ the helm. Can't trust the guy @ all to do the rt thing. I think he has the 2nd or 3rd worst rating out of all qualified passers?

Good luck Wormy- appreciate the info on the MIA game- think they get the cover as well. I’ll be on JAX also as they just seem to have BUFs # for some reason.

Thanks Mags.

Damn Skylar Thompson looked exactly like he did his rookie yr. The guy learned nothing in 2.5 seasons. The biggest reason why they lost to BUF in POs that yr was he couldn't get the ball snapped on time, & it was the same stupid story today. Absolutely mind-boggling. Obviously some of that goes on the coaching staff, but damn man, did you learn nothing?

I meant to put another Unit on CAR +6 & another Unit on ML, but I was watching the MIN/HOU gm too intently. So great day from me but that mistake will cost me. Sigh. I wasn't even drinking yet!!

Should I hedge my KC Teaser w/ATL +3?

Agree about Skylar.....VERY disappointing - especially today, against a banged up Seattle Defense.

But again, I do NOT understand the Dolphins not signing a proven veteran backup for Tua - especially after last season!! What are they thinking?? C'mon now.
Someone should pay for that mistake - way too blatant a screw up.....My 8 year old grandson could have figured out they needed a quality backup.

Not disagreeing w/the logic but they got a lot of high salaries rt now. Those vet backups you see around the league all have rookie contract QBs ahead of them. So Tyreek & Waddle not getting any sympathy from me because they both got paid way more than they should've. And several key "D" players are costing MIA too. Why they let go Mike White is questionable. Trading for Jake Browning would be great. We'll see if Huntley can be functional.
